Our team consisted of Sam, Talia & I, Pastor Matt, Debby, and then John Pipes who is part of International Messengers (the group Dan & Loring are under), and John's son, Keenan who is from California.
This set of pictures is of Pastor Moses & his family as well as the preaching the men on our team did at different churches. Pastor Moses is a good friend of Dan & Loring's and they are a really neat family. Sam preached at Pastor Moses' church, Arise & Shine, on our first Sunday while Pastor Matt preached at another. A three hour service in a hot church can be challenging, but it was a great experience to worship God with our brothers & sisters in Uganda. They sing, preach, sing some more, then a 2nd message, and more singing! The following Sunday, Pastor Matt preached at Moses' church and Sam preached at Kisungu Miracle Center. On our walk to the Miracle Center, we saw groups of men sitting around beer pots. They are these big pots where they poor boiling water over fermenting barley. It's nasty and they sit around drinking it with super long straws.
After church both Sundays, we went to Moses' & Betty's house for lunch. We were served Matoke which reminded me of a mashed baked potato (not like super soft mashed potatoes like we know though). They eat with their hands usually and so it serves as a sticky food to eat the rice & beans with. We also had porsho (sp?) which was also a bland sticky food used to scoop up the rest of the food. Both took on the taste of whatever I was eating and I liked it. We had beans, rice, beef, and bananas or sweet bananas. The food was pretty good and we all liked it. It was a relly nice time of fellowship & laughter!
